Resilience Principles for Environmental Impact Assessment
Av: Michael Jones

A problem with existing Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is that it doesn't consider the cumulative effects of development on things like biodiversity, climate change and the many forms of pollution that arise from human use of the environment. This can be addressed by including resilience assessment as part of an impact assessment, where the assessment is focused on how a complex system responds to an intervention, and what undesirable system change might follow an otherwise beneficial development. Principles for working with resilience assessment enables development while reducing the risk of undesirable system change.
