Revealing Environmental Memory. What the study of medieval literature can tell us about long-term environmental change

<p>The medieval sagas of Iceland may help us better understand how past societies made sense of nature's unpredictability and responded to environmental change. Iceland's medieval literature is not only a valuable repository of proxy data about historical changes to natural systems. It can also provide us with insights concerning how Icelanders of the past memorialized, preserved and transmitted local ecological knowledge over many generations.</p>
